The recent acquisition and installation of a Timson T-48A UV web press at Kingery Printing’s Mattoon, Illinois facility allows us to further excel at one-color books, manuals, workbooks, and other corporate governance material in sizes from 7″x10” to 8.5×11˝. The new press improves Kingery’s position in the very competitive academic, medical, educational, and paperback markets. This space is traditionally dominated by one-color, soft-cover books.
There are multiple advantages to the Timson T-48A UV web press. Equipped with LED UV drying capability, this offers huge benefits both in the quality of the finished work and its environmental impact. The LED UV process utilizes a low energy LED light to turn ink from liquid to solid, resulting in instantaneous drying and zero VOCs being released into the air. The technology greatly reduces the amount of “web wave” common in most projects printed on a web press. The elimination of paper distortion coupled with the open three sides folder creates a finished signature with excellent book aesthetics. Another efficiency is the press’s in-line workbook perforation functionality.
Finally, the printing unit is equipped with a semi-automated plate changing facility. No tools are required for plate changes, nor is there a need to cut the web, allowing operators to easily manage short run work. Operators can concentrate on production, knowing each consecutive form can be pulled up in just a few minutes. This is a very efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly 8-, 16-, and 32-page signature press.
